When I first read what Eowyn was called at the end of the Return of the King, something stirred in me as if I, too, had smelled the sweet fragrance of athelas and had been called out of the shadows. She who was called “alone and hopeless” in Two Towers, received a new name: “the Sun Shone on Her.”
