Brings back a memory from my college speech class professor. He on occasion would enter the room speaking only Elizabethan English. Would carry on for minutes as we sat captured. I could see Shakespeare and Beowulf and even huge chunks of antique languages behind his voice. Wow. The word knightingale became “Ke-nick-ten-gal-a”. Lovely!!
I kind of think that language devolves (as everything does due to entropy) and imagine that we will eventually end up communicating in grunts and nods like cavemen, but I am also hopeful that technology will come up with a type of telepathy where we can communicate thoughts directly without the vehicle of language. But still, I absolutely love the intricate, lovely language of 18th and 19th century literature and will do my part to preserve and proselytize this beauty.
I felt the same question your daughter asked when I was reading Pride and Prejudice! What a wonderful explanation. Can we hope for more beautiful language Eugene? I know I do.

Wow! I wish I could hear more of it.
Brilliant! Note now how do I learn to write like Jane Austen?

Yes, the world definitely needs more language lovers!

That's an interesting question, Shari. Where can we get more of it?
I’ll have to think about it. I’m not sure.
